Pansy's package

Perhaps it's time to change the subject?

Before this slips too much further in the past... who sent Pansy her package full of music?


Also, I've been enjoying Zacharias, Lavender (Lavvyloo! heh!) and Kingsley. Glad to have them in the game.
And Sirius. Glad he's safe so far, and hooray! for the Grim Truth.

Well, we know from past posts that music is very important to Pansy. We also saw that in her Marie-induced dreams, music and her father seemed really closely linked. (daddy's singing to me (http://alt-pansy.livejournal.com/4422.html)...) And some of her blood-traitor thoughts were expressed by referencing her father's songs ("lucius is macheath"). It seems like her love of her father and her sympathy for Muggles and her love of her father's Muggle music are all intertwined somehow. So I could see Lucius trying to weaken that association by exposing her to as much wizard music as possible. If he can get music to remind her of the Malfoys and pureblood accomplishments rather than her father and Muggles, he will have made a significant step in his effort to reprogram her.

Lucius let me listen to music with him. I think he said it was Rossini (but I could be wrong) and it was lovely. And Mozart. There was what Lucius said was a piano concerto and the piano sounded like rippling water to me. I love music. (http://alt-pansy.livejournal.com/8400.html)

So my theory is that the package of music comes from Lucius.

Lucius was my first thought, too. (I mean, who else? Is her mum enough better to be sending packages? Would she even if she were well enough?) The fact that it seems to have been a package full of wizard rock has made me wonder if we're wrong -- rock music seems a bit out of Lucius' natural element. Still, I'd fully believe that he has a connection at the helm of whatever music company puts out wizarding music and that he was able to assemble a care package for her.

But then, wouldn't he have sent Draco something, as well? Or wouldn't Draco have registered a bit of annoyed jealousy that his father was sending care packages to Pansy and not to him?

Actually, now that you've mentioned it, I've remembered there is precedent for Lucius sending out rock music: He sent Harry the new Weird Sisters album (http://alt-harry.livejournal.com/1995.html) a while back and said he had connections to their agent, who is also the agent for The Warlocks. And The Warlocks are one of the bands included in Pansy's package.

I can't imagine Pansy's mother sending her a package, at least not pre-illness. It took a month for her mother to owl her after she started school, and even then Pansy's only comment was She's drinking, as usual (http://alt-pansy.livejournal.com/1417.html). It could be that Pansy's mother's brush with death has given her a change of heart about paying attention to her daughter, but since she agreed to let Pansy spend the whole holiday with Mrs. Black, it seems unlikely.

Go, you! I had no recollection of Lucius' gift to Harry. That makes good sense, so either Pansy just forgot to mention where the package came from, or she was trying to spare Draco's feelings (or just trying to keep from making Draco cross).

I've gathered that Pansy's mum is currently taking a "cure" at Bath and will be there through the holidays. I can't remember where the evidence if for that, either, but I think it was a conversation between Pansy and Sally Anne.
