I am... somewhat concerned that either they are going to find a way to recover past entries, or that they're not done looking at Daphne yet and she will think about this discussion in the wrong place.

But that may just be because I tend to expect the worst. (Now if Poppy would just /talk to Siz/...)

It does sound like Barty might know. I'm not sure, though--if it is, they're talking around it. (If I had to guess, I'd say that Barty's guessed, but has not had it confirmed, and finds it simpler not to delve into into)

I think Barty doesn't want it confirmed, because either way Lucius is going to get punished by Voldemort and if Draco's not dead but the tapestry says he is, that means Narcissa is complicit in hiding his not-dead-ness and that puts her in danger.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Interesting how she's all puffed up at Rachel for having an affair with Lucius, but Barty and Lucius get along fine.

Thank God they did have an affair, though. Don't know what else would force Barty to keep silent.

It may not be a special skill so much as Bellatrix realising that her methods don't always get the best out of Hydra. If they want a particular insight from Harrys mind they have good reason to think Hydra will protect him. Bella can't prove she means Harry no harm, however Barty can be read by Hydra. So Barty believes he means no harm to Harry, Hydra is convinced and cooperates. Of course, even given Bellas defence of Harry always, she is more loyal to Voldie and may not have Harry's best interests in mind.
But I would bet she has convinced Barty that she is on Harry's side.
