Below is not entirely in date order, as some plots overlap with others. Hopefully it will make sense, nevertheless.
- Harry and Ron made a rather dramatic entrance to Hogwarts.
- Hydra Lestrange was sorted into Slytherin, Luna Lovegood was sorted into Ravenclaw, and we heard from Daphne Greengrass and Lana Sandoval for the first time. Dean took his placement exam.
- Harry's mysterious problems with his journal over the summer - that he couldn't post at all - seemed to get fixed. This was due to the application of new journals. Fortunately, the Order Only and ISS locks still work.
- Lana Sandoval, the Head Girl, instituted a loyalty oath. There were various responses. McGonagall had to prod the Gryffindors to sign.
- Molly visited Moddey Dhoo, and while she was away Arthur was detained by the MLE (apparently due to Ron's involvement with the flying car).
- Padma began hanging out in "Ravenclaw Corner," the equivalent of joining the Hogwarts Plastics (or at least the Ravenclaw Plastics).
- Lupin began settling in to his new life, helping smuggle supplies in. His alias is "Junius Ponds."
- Draco tried to make Hermione do more magic. (Unrelatedly, he also made the Quidditch team, and his father bought brooms for the team.)
- The slug-belching incident happened; the new CoMC professor, Brutka, seems nice enough.
- Regulus appeared to have some kind of secretive mission. Padma's brother Haruman saw a murder scene as an emergency mediwizard. Related?
- Pansy became nearly as close with Regulus as Narcissa - and Regulus was negative about Sirius to her.
- Neville's great-grandmother died, providing Alice with a way to spend an afternoon with him.
- This year, Harry's class begins Muggle Studies. The prejudice against half-bloods became extremely clear as Prof. Carrow sabotaged Dean Thomas in Transfiguration (and also became steadily more horrible to Terry). Meanwhile, Binns preached near-sedition in History of Magic, prompting a special study club.. Students pushed to bring back the dueling club.
- Sinistra continued to run the Young Protectors League, starting with a visit from Aurors. The second was a visit from a St. Mungo's Healer. The third was Charlie, as a dragon handler.
- There was an outbreak of illness in the Muggle camps (complicating a pickup of some wizarding babies). Hogwarts also had a spate of illnesses, which scared a lot of people. Soon, there was a full-blown epidemic in the camps. Other wizards also start falling ill, though it's not clear that it's the same illness.
- The Dean-Carrow situation came to a head when the ISS lock realized Carrow planned to Imperius Dean into giving Hermione his wand. They spelled Dean's wand to stick to his hand, and Terry spontaneously set a bunch of things ablaze; the situation is referred to as the "Fire and Mud Incident" and even makes the Daily Prophet. Partially as a result, Terry was temporarily reassigned to McGonagall and had a hard time adjusting.
- Regulus, again, was secretive about a mission, and Pansy was sympathetic. Another murder happened. And Haruman found out that there were multiple murders when he had to testify about what he'd seen.
- Lucretia Prewett, a relation of both the Malfoys and the Weasleys, passed away. Nymphadora was remembered in the will.
- Hydra's origami rabbit Tex disappeared, and she got one named Tully. (And Tully eventually got mysteriously hurt.)
- Hermione learned the Memory Charm, so they could begin to try and expand ISS. The new members had to post secrets to assure their sincerity: Neville, Ron, Sally-Anne and Sally-Anne again.
- Ron and Harry and Draco went to the Deathday Party, the Halloween feast was in honor of the Fat Friar. They found Crookshanks petrified, which was worrying to all. Ginny did not feel like writing about the events. Rumors about the Chamber of Secrets abounded.
- The epidemic in the camps progressed, beginning to affect Muggleborns as well - and the Sherwood Band too. One refugee at Moddey Dhoo got steadily worse. Arthur began to seriously see the effects in his job - heartbreaking.
- There was a mysterious fire at the site of an old orphanage, full of traces of dark and blood magic. And there was more creepiness from Regulus.
- At a Quidditch match, a rogue bludger nearly did for Harry. He and Draco were benched temporarily, and realized that it was Dobby doing it - a Dobby who seems to have gone mad. On the same day, the Heir of Slytherin struck again, this time freezing Terry and Sir Nicholas.
- Regulus had yet another mysterious assignment. Madam Hooch's sister died "due to a rogue Bludger."
- The refugee at Moddey Dhoo felt better. However, the epidemic continued, despite denials by the Ministry.
- Regulus encountered Nymphadora at Remus' (er, Junius Ponds') shop and told Narcissa about it, giving everybody a good scare. They had to fess up to Tonks about the Order. Then Tonks' neighbor went missing - very scary.
- Dueling club finally got started, with Lockhart at the helm, and everyone studied up. At the club, Harry used his Parseltongue - although it wasn't so much of a surprise in this world, people were still really scared.
- Bobby Stebbins, the boy who it seemed like the snake was going after, was Petrified next. Ginny was found unconscious nearby. People immediately began to speculate about why one, and not the other, was Petrified.
- Ron decided to stay at the castle for Christmas, and noticed the spiders all over (eventually he did reconcile with his parents). Draco also had to stay, because Harry did too. They couldn't even go to the Malfoy Christmas party. Hydra also stayed.
- The Order learned a little more about the maintenance of the wards, and decided to try to breach them; it at least partially worked.
- Sally-Anne saw something horrible: bodies lined up in a field. Looks like the epidemic has truly been deadly. And there's a secret ward at St. Mungo's for half-blood victims.
- An incendiary article was placed in the Daily Prophet. The Ministry was furious.
- Sirius continued to post Grim Truths: 9/1/92, 10/17/92, 11/14/92, 12/14/92; he struggled with their consequences, too.
- Just as a note, throughout this term Luna, Hydra and Ginny all emerged as possible possess-ees.
