I have that problem. (I'm currently rewatching Tennant era Who, too, and it does not help.)
The one that really weirded me out was Tennant doing a single episode character in Foyle's War who is an ardent pacifist. It broke my brain.
(Foyle's War is a completely awesome series, for people who haven't seen it: mysteries in the south of England during World War II. It does moral complexity very well, and is thus sometimes uncomfortable watching, but in the good way. Also a somewhat obsessive attention to historical detail and internal canon.)
