The Sorting Hat is a pretty good judge of character, since that's what it was created for. I'm guessing it wouldn't have told him if it didn't know he could be trusted with the information.
I like the thought of Terry finding out about the Order and their secrets, though. Since Hermione will be in the position to read both journal locks, I wonder if she will tell either secret group about the existence of the other.
