The one drawback of a "only things actually written in the journals" format: not being able to be a fly on the wall if somebody gives Dolohov the toad plate to give to McGonagall. (For either of those two potential conversations, really!)

Though at least we've gotten Very Amused Dolohov talking about it in the journal now!

Yeah, and house-elf dropping off a present is less exciting than Harry saying, "Thanks for not being a horrible human being! Have a toad." There's still the conversation with Minerva to imagine, though :D
