So obviously there are many differences between Voldemort and Dumbledore but I have to laugh at the autocratic way in which each one decided to bring in a bunch of new, semi-prepared members without consulting anyone else. And, for that matter, how each of them seems to closet themselves away doing esoteric research while their lieutenants are left to run the organization.
That said, I daresay the Order has gotten a far better deal with regards to the infusion of new blood.

You know, I was under the impression that Albus wasn't even leading the Order anymore, really. (Which might have something to do with how he NEVER POSTS ANYTHING but probably has more to do with him not doing much leading)

Anyway.

To be fair, they had decided to let the ISS in already. It was just... rather sudden.

I guess I thought of him as being more like Godot. I mean, Alice is described as co-head of the organization. Although on second thought, I have to double-check that the other head is Albus.

Considering how my memory's been recently, though, lemme go find a citation for that.

Mea culpa, it was not Albus based on a vote for him as co-head after Arthur's death which implies he wasn't previously in the position.

It occurs to me that after the DoM near-debacle they probably wanted to swear the kids in ASAP before they find some other way to get themselves killed.

Also: isn't today the last day of school or something? There was a comment about Draco having his birthday someday there aren't exams for once. So they don't have to face the Death Eaters We All Know And Love for a bit and have time to sort through this all.

Terry has a good point: there's stuff on the Order lock that the ISS folks might be unprepared for (or might find horrifying and/or insulting).

If they'd been sworn in less autocratically, they might have gotten warned, or might have other Order members around when they discovered what was there. But as it is, they just got let loose to explore on their own...

I guess this will be a chance for Draco to find out if he actually does want people to just be honest.
That said, I am surprised that Draco did in fact join given his previous protestations.

I'm not particularly, given his reaction to Pansy keeping the ISS secret, and how he still prickles at Hermione keeping secrets from him. I don't imagine he's particularly enthused about being part of the Order, but he'd always rather know more than less.

Yeah, but he had said earlier that he didn't intend to. Or something along those lines. I'd have to look.

ETA: But yes, that is a good point.

That... is a really good point. Even if he had said he would never "swear an oath to any adult" or whatever it was he said....

I think Albus was uniquely suited to encourage him to join, but I also think the potential for being isolated, with everyone else joining, especially Harry and Hermione, was probably enough to push him over the edge.

That's probably true about being isolated, but I'm still dying to know what Albus said exactly.

I guess it's more that to join the Order is to acknowledge that, in this moment, he is signing up to directly fight his parents. To be like Sirius. And it's so different for him than it was for Sirius or even for Hydra (and can we note how her situation parallels Andromeda!) because he does have a very good relationship with his parents, unlike either of them. He is loyal to Harry, yes, but unless the Malfoys change, he has the most Pyrrhic victory ahead.
That said, if I were Dumbledore, I would remind him that being on the winning side will help him keep his parents out of Azkaban one day.

Yeah. Well, I mean, some of the others are fairly close to people in that circle too, but Draco's in the worst position.

That is probably what Dumbledore did--told him he would be better positioned to protect his family by working with the Order. Or something like that.

(Also, re: Hydra and Andromeda, you made me go dig up a conversation between Narcissa and Bella back in Y1 that is terribly ironic in hindsight. Enjoy!)

Yeah, but the others (specifically Pansy and Hydra) have flat-out stated that they know they'll be fighting Lucius/Dolohov/Bellatrix whereas Draco has only ever said that he can't imagine his parents still support Voldemort and that they must be aware of the LP's insanity.
I do wonder how exactly Harry feels about having to maybe fight Lucius or Raz one day. Has he ever said?

That's true. Though to be fair, Draco hasn't been on the lock long.

I don't know about Harry. I don't remember him saying, but that doesn't mean he hasn't.

My immediate reaction was much the same as Remus: Albus Dumbledore, WHAT THE BLOODY HELL?

And I just noticed something: Dumbledore seems to be making a habit of only appearing in June. Two years ago he told the Order to admit MacNair and Snape, and last year he dropped Pleniloquence Ridley on Kingley's doorstep.

Mine was more 'what.' But yes, I am inclined to sympathize with Remus.

He... heh. So Bad Things happen in May (and sometimes June, as with this end-of-year), and Dumbledore turns up in June (increasing early in June, actually). And shoves the whole situation sideways in some manner. (Now I'm trying to remember June of Y1 & Y2)
