And this where I show my colors and admit that Frank is...not one of my favorite characters. Does it suck rocks? Yes. I'd be...more torn up if it was one of a handful of other folks.

Yeah, I was worried for a bit there that the price was Frank's death, especially with his comments beforehand. Which... would have been interesting, I guess, but...

I don't see Albus being...sanguine about using magic that required death. Too much blurring of the lines.

(Then again, I still don't have a good feel for Albus. I might be completely off.)

Well, experimental magic has its risks, and that's why we have Gryffindors?

Albus is cryptic, infuriatingly secretive, and does not communicate clearly or directly even when it might be warranted, just like in canon; I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to know wtf is going on in there.

Oh, certainly, I'm not saying Albus should be portrayed as anything other than infuriatingly cryptic.

Yeah, I thought about that, and it would have been odd, but if Frank agreed I wouldn't think it implausible.

And, y'know, if it was something that didn't technically require death but ended up killing him, (price in a more meta sense) well...

I read Frank's entry surreptitiously at work, and I nearly gasped out loud. I WAS SO WORRIED.

Hopefully everyone who got out of there alive (which is, honestly, more people than I was worried would at several points) will recover. But... yeah.

Honestly, when Remus said she'd killed him when he was already incapacitated, I immediately went, "... did she kill him so he wouldn't be questioned?"

I was thinking a mercy killing when Remus said that she'd AKed him when he was so incapacitated him. Mercy from his wounds, and now that you mention it, from Barty and Lucius.

Yeah, I thought mercy killing too. I really want her to be in some rebel group, though. (That post to Johnny after it all made me very suspicious.)

You too? That message struck me as a very ... you know, that would be a clever way of passing coded messages in the journals, someone with a lot of various exes, not all of whom are necessarily ex-lovers....

(Also, Lucius twitting her about referring to the Dogstar guy as a 'family friend' made me hmmm and suspect he was another ex...)

I started to get really suspicious about her when she wrote to Mafalda Hopkirk asking to be sent to Saltash because it was "important" to her.

And you're right, that would be an excellent way to pass along coded messages. Very Ravenclaw -- she was a Ravenclaw, wasn't she?

Ravenclaw, yes.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to piece together what I (think I) know about it, which gets me:

1) MLE was doing something at Saltash.
2) Dogstar was doing something at Saltash.
3) Dunno if these are related facts.
4) Likely Prentiss turned down the promotion because of #2.
5) There are caves under Saltash? Interesting. Dunno if they are related to #1, or if they are related to "MLE is trying to solve Frank's bubble".
6) Rachel wanted to get to Saltash.
7) Rachel knew Prentiss.
8) Evidence suggests that Rachel is something of a softie, given that she shows emotional distress at all the stuff that freaks out Bill and that's why they were booty-calling each other. (My pet theory is that she's in Malfeasance because it involves less blood and torture.)
9) So "putting down a camp uprising" is not likely Rachel's idea of a good time, she wanted to be involved for some other reason. Like one or more of #1 or #2.
10) At the same time, I don't see someone as empathetic as she appears to be getting far in Dogstar. Then again, it's a bit of a problem for being an Auror and she pulled that off okay.
11) It is not useful to kill already disabled targets when actively searching for information and when under specific orders to not take out any wizards permanently; killing Stephen risks Barty noticing that she disobeyed.
12) Um.
