Barty Crouch Jr. arrives home from his party. He attempts to send private messages, but fails to write the code properly. Padma notices. Sally-Anne does too. Barty stops his mother from making unnecessary preparations. Lucius recovers from their debauch the night before. Bill obtains false identities to allow two of the infants to be rescued.
23 January
Narcissa informs Barty and his ladyfriend that his mother is spreading rumours. Sirius reports his and Kingley's success in their muggleborn retrieval mission. Hermione scolds Harry privately.
24 January
Hannah looks forward to more rehearsals based on the read-through. Terry misses Hermione. Michael seeks advice on his essay from Padma.
25 January
Sally-Anne enlists Draco's help to celebrate Pansy's birthday on Thursday. Hydra hopes to do well in the play.
26 January
Penelope announces a few cast changes. Blaise admires the handiwork of the younger student he and Draco used to hex Michael. Fred and George apologize for startling Angelina in Care of Magical Creatures. Percy tells Harry that Hermione has run afoul of Amycus Carrow. Carrow complains, drunkenly, of interference. Percy later finds Carrow seriously incapacitated and helps Alecto get him to the hospital wing. Hermione requests Harry's assistance. Madam Pomfrey objects to the demands of the Carrows on her Healing skills. Sally-Anne reminds Ron about Pansy's birthday and proposes a celebration separate from the Slytherin one.
27 January
Neville succeeds in Transfiguration when Carrow is not at the helm. Frank pushes to rescue the other infants whose identities Professor McGonagall protected. Luna lists items of significance, good and bad.
28 January
Ron inquires after Pansy's all-Slytherin party. Hydra offers her condolences to Hermione, in a way. Professor Sinistra checks with the Headmistress after helping carry Alecto Carrow to the hospital wing. Sally-Anne spreads the story of Alecto and Lucius' duel to the ISS kids. Padma shares what she's heard with Seamus. Seamus frets to his guardian about the Carrows' volatility. Draco insists that his father is perfectly unscathed. Director Selwyn demands to hear what happened from Lucius. Kingsley relates a disturbing tale about rescuing another muggleborn infant. Narcissa searches for her husband. She even consults Selwyn and Rabastan on his whereabouts. Bill tries to confirm the Carrows' status with Professor McGonagall. Barty Crouch, Jr. cancels an official search effort. Narcissa thanks Barty for starting the process. Dean registers his complaints against Carrow to his guardian. Percy denies all the rumours about the duel and subsequent dismissals, disfigurements, disruptions, and deaths.
