I'm really hoping that eventually we get an out-universe explanation of the competition, with all the challenges (and what we were shown as attempts at the challenges) put together, maybe even with commentary from players! I'm finding the whole thing really fascinating, and that just makes me want more, especially the things that aren't getting written down and really wouldn't get written down.

Right now, of course, I'm curious about the most recent challenge - notably, Linus has the choice between stealing from one of two Councilwizards and merely stealing from a Councilwizard's wife, but surely not everyone would be expected to have access to those two houses. Even if all the WWtBaCouncilwizard contestants were invited to Spencer House, that still leaves Dolohov - and perhaps there are other Councilwizards to whom contestants might have similar access, or from whom contestants might have particular qualms about stealing.

Then there's an interesting question: does anybody think whoever's directing the competition (or the contestant-picking-Councilwizards working as a group, if that's where the challenges arise) expected Linus to immediately tell Dolohov? If nothing else, if anyone else was also offered Dolohov as a stolen-item-source, now Dolohov is warned! I can't decide if I want the challenge-author(s) to have been that clever, or if I hope that Linus being Linus threw a, uh, fastener-tightening charm into their plans.

(Also, I keep F5ing hoping Dolohov has replied to Linus, or has written something not to him, because imagining his consternation is great!)

As keeper of the wiki, I'll say that this is the kind of thing we have a wiki for (partly so *we* can keep track of all of the bits of data.)

Which is to say, for values of 'eventually' that equal game end, yes, that data exists. *grin*

I have a theory about Pansy; I think she's been so weepy the past few days because they've asked her to steal from or do something to either Sally Anne or George. Or there could be another reason for that.

Draco's loyal to his mother and father; he (along with several of the candidates, actually!) is also loyal to the Order, but they don't know that (or I HOPE they don't!) His task probably has something to do with them. Or Harry?

Hydra, I don't know. I would have said she was definitely loyal to Justin, but now? They might still make her do something to him, if they don't believe the breakup thing.

Katie might have to do something to Harry, I imagine.

Seamus might have to do something to either Mr. Rosier or Padma, and Padma to Seamus or Parvati?

About Dean, I have no idea. To whom is he loyal? Can't think of anyone.

The really scary thing to ponder is what Sarah Yaxley told Teddy Nott to do. She's nuts and he's nuttier!

Did I miss anyone?

Maybe, but Pansy has been acting strangely on and off for months. Remember the cursed badges. She didn't have one, unless reports were mistaken but she was bad tempered and a bit irrational.

Well, I wasn't going to say it, but my other theory is that Pansy might be pregnant. I have no evidence to site except a vague feeling on my part, but hormones do make you weepy, and it wouldn't exactly be fun telling her mom (let alone Lucius) that not only is she pregnant, but the father is George Weasley, so I could see her being worried and edgy.

Or (I just thought of this) maybe she and George are simply having problems?

It was mentioned in another thread that Pansy may have found the locket. Her moods have been volatile for some time.

I should be horrified at the idea of putting a person down like an animal, shouldn't I ?
ladyrelaynie: (Default)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
No more horrified than I should be, agreeing with a Death Eater!

Is it bad that I'm kind of rooting for Malfoy/Dolohov/Crouch 's plan to work?

Ah, moral dilemmas. Gotta love em.

ETA: Spoke too soon. . Now I'm feeling a bit sorry for Rowena Robins. And yes, I did just say that.

I was rooting for them too, even Lucius and Barty.

I'd feel sorrier for Rowena if she hadn't tried it on with Draco. Seducing or attempting to, schoolboys is despicable in my book. I guess it's the former teacher in me.

I am dreading the end of Alternity. Assuming the order win, I will be so sad if Antonin and Raz at least don't get happyish endings. Maybe they can found their own country on the Isle of Wight.

Oh, believe me, it's despicable in my book too, and thank God she didn't succeed! Though poor Draco apparently didn't escape the other seduction. Rotten luck, that!

I just don't know if she deserved to be lied to, manipulated, and sent to Azkaban for it.

As for the end of Alternity, ME TOO. I'd suggest that they start another one based on the books, but they'd probably be like "another seven years? NO THANKS."

Barty and Antonin: The players have done so well making us like the death eaters in spite of ourselves!

BRB moving to the Isle of Wight. ;)

I like Sally Ann's suggestion of Ron making Padma fall in love with Teddy even if she doesn't.
It would be both hilarious and keep Teddy busy. Then Raz can dispose of him and thereby clean up the mess.
ladyrelaynie: Refresh, refresh, refresh (refresh)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
Speaking of Teddy, how much do you want to bet it's Raz who has him under Imperius?
From: [personal profile] ellemir
Him or Dolohov, anyway.

Although there is a slim possibility that it's not Imperius but part of whatever he has been told to do for the challenge.
ladyrelaynie: (Default)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
If it isn't imperius, it's scary as hell, because what if people get lulled into a false sense of security since he's being nice? YIKES.
From: [personal profile] ellemir
Well, Dolohov said he would watch him and act if needed, so it is probably his Imperius.

As for candidates being told to directly against other candidates, you can put a "yes" in that column with Ron's latest post.
ladyrelaynie: (Default)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
Maybe those were picked because they were nominated by people close to Lucius Malfoy, and Ron's sponsor Avery doesn't like Lucius. The people picked come from the nominees of the Sandoval-Pennifolds (Draco, Hydra and Padma), Virgil Crispin (Seamus), and Ptolemy Baddock (Dean Thomas).

As for Testing Ron's loyalties, his brother works for Lucius, and Ron refuses to break up with Sally Anne on principle because he threatened Pansy. Maybe he thinks Ron is loyal to Lucius by extension? His friends are all people connected to Lucius.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I concur. Avery senior might not like Mr Malfoy (or he didn't, IIRC) but not necessarily Avery Junior. And he's been trying to meet with Lucius, too.

Speaking of Mr. Malfoy and J. Avery, did you see this from Pansy?

I still can't say why those particular four were picked, but maybe Mr. Malfoy put him up to it, in support of his plans?

Isn't diviner's mint what the Strettons were growing illegally on their farm? Anyone remember what year that was? I couldn't find it. (Though I admittedly didn't have too much time to look)

I have a vague idea that it's used in veritaserum, but haven't verified that yet either.

Yeah. No wonder Pansy has been edgy lately. (Though there still might be something else wrong, because this challenge is too recent to be the whole reason)
From: [personal profile] ellemir
Think it was Year 5 because Sally and Ron were together at that point. I certainly don't think it can be earlier than year 4 at the very outside.
From: [personal profile] ellemir
It was July last year

http://alt-bill.dreamwidth.org/38240.html?thread=395360&style=light

Did a search on it with the terms MLE and stretton.
Don't use Sally as a search term, Sally D is a nickname for the drug.

Is Sally's original post on the subject.

Veritaserum, other truth serums and divining the most auspicious day to do something, were the uses I could find mentioned.
ladyrelaynie: (Default)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
Sorry for my ignorance, but can you tell me where you go to search for these things? I haven't figured that out yet.

Hmmm. Bill doesn't say anything about veritaserum, just the divination usage. Maybe I've just pulled that out of a certain orifice?

ETA: Oh! Just saw your post. Glad I wasnt' mistaken.

Wonder who they want Pansy to give Truth serum to?

I just use my usual search engine. google, today.

If you add dreamwidth as a search term you can narrow the search, but I often omit it which sometimes turns up interesting things that the players may have used as inspiration. There is quite a lot of historical info on Diviners sage, which is sometimes called Diviners mint.
Including a poet Herrick who mentions it and lived at Stretton.
ladyrelaynie: (Default)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
Interesting coincidence, that! (Herrick the poet)

Ohhh! I did use that a few times, but I never could get it to spit me out anything useful. Will try adding dreamwidth. I searched diviner's mint and saw all that stuff about Diviner's sage. Awesome that it's a real thing!
From: [personal profile] ellemir
And once you have a rough date you can just search the journal archive for a particular character.
From: [personal profile] ellemir
Try to pick at least one unusual search term, such as a Harry Potter Alternity specific name, if a normal search doesn't narrow things enough.
From: [personal profile] ellemir
And I don't think from what is said that they want Pansy to make veritaserum.
I think they want her to make a dangerous divination potion, and give it to a trusted friend. Hence the comments about strange visions.
ladyrelaynie: (Default)
From: [personal profile] ladyrelaynie
It also sounds as if she's talked to Sally Anne about it, and SA has agreed to take it.

Has the potential to end really well. (heavy sarcasm)
From: [personal profile] ellemir
Especially as these challenges seem to need to be fairly public.
You can't give an Order member a hallucinogen in public and expect it to end well.
And if given privately what proof would Pansy be able to give that she had done it.
Hopefully, she'll decide this is a perfect task to fail dismally.
