I was not expecting this in particular (that is, something involving the locket) to happened, though in retrospect I probably should have been. I was just expecting Something to happen.

She has admitted she was in love with Draco and has just found out he loves Hermione. Then he is interrogated and forced to flee. There have been a few telling crossings out on her post like "Hermione ?" too.
I figured this would be the trigger.

They have always worried that Kreacher would find a way to cause trouble. I wouldn't like the job of working out what to do with him now?

I suppose we don't want Padma to die? Do we? I wouldn't be sorry if she got a fright but I'd worry about the repercussions for Pansy.

It makes sense, in retrospect, but I didn't see it coming at all.

(...oh, wow, and Padma's conversation with Finnegan was setting this up, too, wasn't it, as well as showing aftermath.)

I am honestly not sure he was being actively/deliberately malicious with this, actually. Just... warped is the closest word I'm coming up with.

(And... yeah, basically that. More worried about Pansy/other collateral damage that Padma herself, though it would be preferable if she survived even if there wouldn't be fallout from her dying)

Just had a horrible thought. When they open the chamber, might the locket open too?

In canon they both opened when commanded to in parseltongue.

(I am failing to actually remember what happened when the locket was opened, help me out here? I'm assuming it wasn't good)

It talked to them and tried to twist things.
They were able to overcome its influence and destroy it. But what happens if it opens and they don't have the venom?

It sort of... bubbled up images trying to twist the minds of those trying to destroy it. IIRC, in canon it was with Ron and made images in the air of Hermione and Harry kissing, so Ron found it very difficult to destroy it.

The diary horcrux got stronger with time as it fed on Ginnys life force.
And the diary Tom got more solid and real.
I don't know exactly what I think would happen but it wouldn't be good.

One of the things I love love love about Alternity is the fact that it's not just the Trio doing all the important stuff together. Even without involving any of the adults (yet...) they've got what, 8 or 9 kids involved. Some of them are running interference, but there are still six or so around trying to figure out the problem. Even if the locket tries to twist around whoever opens it, there'll a whole bunch of different people around to try and talk them out of it.

Yeah, I second this. It's really really nice to have an awareness that support networks and help can be gotten from more than two other people!

It feels like as a result, while the world is much darker than canon, there's much less reason for despair. Horrible and terrible and tragic things happen, but there's more hope that one day, things will be better, and that the responsibility for ensuring that can be shared and passed on.

Thirding this. Support networks are a good thing. (It's kind of interesting that one of the first things the horcruxes seem to try to do is cut people off from them)

I don't think it was me. It might have been, because I sometimes make helpful predictions, but I don't think it was this time. :)

And even if it had succeeded with everyone who went down into the Chamber, there were people not there - not even in the building, in Sirius's case - who knew they were doing something.

As to specific something happen, I don't know that I had expectations, though.
