I am loving all of these little reminiscences tonight. Sally Anne about Pansy. Snape about Lily. Big Head Boy. Reminiscences of first year and first meetings.
And--my theory at the moment on that is that the journal monitoring is back up, and someone decided it was a good idea to cast something to make everyone reminisce in the journals to make up for lost time.
I'm enjoying it too, and I couldn't guess why, but I think @teceler is right, it has to do with the journals.
Who cast it, though, and what was the spell, and where? At Percy's funeral? Surely they couldn't get EVERYBODY at the funeral, but maybe all the people anyone cared about? But then Barty and Tosha would be doing it too. Unless they cast it? Ow, my head hurts from all this surmising.
Okay, how's this for a theory. It's some kind of contagious magical effect, someone carried to the funeral, and someone carried it to the beer garden and it spread from there to Grimmauld... except... Draco hasn't been around any of the relevant parties?
The tricky part is Snape, really, why he would be affected and Draco wouldn't.
I was toying with the theory that it was spreading through the journals, to people private messages were sent to, but that again rules out Draco. Or Barty for that matter (hasn't answered Antonin's).
But maybe they're immune for some reason?
ETA: apparently not immune, in Barty's case. Why everyone but Draco?
Possibly something hooked into the journal charms themselves, if so? It's hard to tell whether the fact that it seems to be spreading from the funeral is coincidental, or whether it's that, y'know, all the NPCs without journals are also waxing nostalgic.
Though it seems to be hitting mostly more distant past than the last few months.
Antonin has a stolen snapdragon. So that is probably how Barty and he were infected.
I'm worried because Daphne mentions preparing a wreath of lilies and snapdragons, so similar to the affected wreath, with her mother. If that is the enchanted bouquet, it appears to have been charmed before the funeral as she felt affected when preparing it. Could her mother, Victoriana Greengrass be responsible? And if she is what is the reason for it? While it seems a harmless prank, it could be responsible for the negative stories about Percy at the funeral. And Draco is right that they are lucky Hydra is writing under the lock, although everyone appears to be talking about fairly innocuous things.
I guess it could just be one of her mothers flowers like the snowdrops charmed to last and give good dreams Daphne had at Hogwarts years ago. So the charm would be innocent and well meaning.
I'm extra curious how Draco, Hermione, and Dora managed to avoid the effects, since Snape, Lupin, and Sirius were (and if Bea was, we wouldn't know since she doesn't have a journal).
Can't wait to hear Tosha and Barty on the subject once the charm has worn off!
Can you point me to where Sirius is affected? I don't see it.
I can imagine Hermione staying out of the way during the funeral etc. Percy caused her a bit of grief in first year, she probably doesn't have anything positive to contribute to the mourners. Snape presumably took control of the wreath for potion ingredients, maybe it was passed via Lupin. Would you notice nostalgia in a toddler? Bea only has a limited number of memories to dwell on, and most would be positive. Lilies are both poisonous and full of pollen that stains easily and in some cases permanently. Personally, I wouldn't let a child anywhere near them Draco isn't talking memories but he is more responsive than I usually expect. Is he unaffected? Or just very discreet? Work may have kept Dora out of the way, or if she is still sensitive to smells she may be avoiding going near flowers. Just my noodlings on what may be happening.
I thought Sirius had responded to Remus' post, but I checked and he didn't.
As to the rest of it, it looks like you're right about Draco and Hermione and Dora; they just weren't close enough to it to be affected. Shame. I'd love to know what fond memories they would have, especially Hermione. She's been quiet lately; I was getting kind of worried about her. But you're right about her probably staying out of the way. No love lost there, definitely.
Maybe Bea would start reminiscing about the toy dragon Charlie sent her, and throw a fit wanting it back?
memories ... all alone in the moonlight
