Possibly Voldie believed Rookwood that the potion to make crossing the wards less ghastly works. (Possibly Rookwood believes it works.)
And, you know, it's interesting: this is I think only the second time that a private message header has been done wrong, and we've never seen the Order lock done wrong...
I tend to think that Crouch is probably not playing bait: it looks like he tried to write to "Batya", not to "A Dolohov". (In fact, scanning back through his journal, it looks like the two times he's written from Ireland are the only times he's addressed Dolohov that way in an entry, rather than comment, header - otherwise it's been Toshenka or A Dolohov.) Which suggests also that it's not someone else using his journal and intentionally messing up the private message header so that they'd still be able to see the message afterwards.
It's possible this is less ghastly, but maybe not by much. I can only wonder what kind of shape Barty will be in if Dolohov manages to get the LP to agree to recall him- I can't imagine a second trip through the wards, in the state he's in, is going to be pleasant.
I think Barty's death is the only thing that's going to get Dolohov to act on his treasonous thoughts- I just wonder how that will play out, with Desai and Lana under the same roof.
IIRC, in canonthe original version of this world, Narcissa rather treasonously moved worlds in care of Draco. She can't do that now, but instead we seem to have the Dolohov/Barty dynamic for the parent-child potential betrayal of V. With Narcissa thrown in for good measure.
I shall be interested to see whether it requires Barty's death, or merely an abandonment of him as a useful tool, now broken. At which point we're going to see the wrath of somebody very lawfully dark going up against V. (I've been catching up on the archives, and got to see just how highly Dolohov values Barty in their initial exchange.)

Date: 2014-11-20 06:37 pm (UTC)Or does V simply not give a shit if the wards kill his people?
Or did something else happen to Barty after his initial transit?
Or...
Regardless, it is going to blow up in six unpredictable directions.
