Alternity started in approximately 1999 as a work of fanfiction by a group of people (including Flourish, Tinderblast, and SlytherinDragon) and became a role-playing game in 2008. Since then, it has encompassed over 11,000 posts and countless comments, emails, chats, and an amazing amount of time and attention from and by its players.

While the game may have reached its conclusion, we are not exactly done! Don't go away because we have some fun and exciting extras planned for you. In the coming weeks, we'll unveil some additional "bonus content," host some AMAs from player- and character-perspective, talk about the process, and of course, celebrate the achievement that this story represents for all of us, and we hope, all of you.

For now, though, goodnight, and thank you for reading, responding, and being part of Alternity.

I've been crying and laughing and maudlin and squeeful and reload-crazy all evening. Okay, really, all week. You've all created such an amazing, rich, nuanced universe, and I feel privileged and grateful to have gotten to follow along for the last few years.

Thank you so much for a wild few months! I only found Alternity late last year, though I've known folks involved with it for much longer. It kept me amused during my second pregnancy and late night feedings with an infant.

I'm looking forward to the bonus content, and hope y'all do a re-release of the complete-year PDFs so I can go back and reread everything again! :)

I don't know if it's you guys testing, but I've noticed the number of "previous" posts displayed on the alt_player read page bouncing around in terms of numbers all day. 30, then 17. (I'm waiting for 23 because Galleons ;) ) Figured I'd give a heads up in case it's not you!

It was indeed me testing -- we've narrowed down the point at which the "mysterious post duplicated out of order at the bottom of the reading page" starts happening and for now I've set the skip value to the highest point at which it doesn't so y'all can read without getting confused.

(And, uh, I guess this is the point at which I out myself as a player? SORRY GUYS I KNOW WE WERE SAVING THAT FOR LATER IN THE WEEK I JUST DIDN'T WANT PEOPLE THINKING THAT DREAMWIDTH WAS RANDOMLY MESSING WITH ALT-PLAYER)

EDIT: And the post that (we think) was causing the duplication bug has fallen out of the array of posts that are initially fetched to build the reading page, so the problem isn't happening now no matter how many posts are on the reading page. Technology! Gotta love it.

Thank you all! I've followed Alternity since the beginning, and it is has been a wonderful experience, and something that I've looked forward to every day. What you have been able to accomplish is truly impressive, and it has been amazing to watch it develop.
