Open letter to alt_lana

Dear Lana,

I don't like you very much, but I know that you are a smart girl. So, please, watch your step with Rodolphus. The man is lonely and frustrated, and while he obviously appreciates your work and friendship, his wife will get you kicked out of the Auror program (or worse) if there's any hint of impropriety.

Seriously, you don't want to get on the wrong side of Bellatrix. You're smart enough to know that.

It is! I think it's a testament to Bellatrix's player that even though Lana isn't the nicest character, we're worried about Bella's possible retribution.

I'm both terribly concerned about Bella's retribution and extremely curious as to what it would be. (And what Rod would do. Oh god, what would she do to Rod?)

I don't know, I have trouble seeing Bellatrix agreeing to that if for no other reason she likes control. And power and denying Rod is definitely power AND control.

Possibly, though I don't think we've had any clues to that effect. Bella seems like a very possessive person, so I kind of doubt she'd give up control of that part of her husband's life, even if it was to her heir apparent.

Rodolphus definitely has a type, doesn't he?

On the other hand, can't Bella read the PMs? It's rather indiscreet of Rod to use them if he and Bella don't have an agreement. Or maybe she's so busy that he thinks she won't notice, and that he can explain them away if they're not explicit.

I think she has access to them, but might not bother all the time? You're probably right, she's too busy to really notice it but woooo. That'll be an explosion to watch. In cold terms.

Plus, this is the ultimate disrespectful thing for Lana, who's made such a big deal about wanting to be like Bellatrix, to do. Whether or not an agreement exists, the fact that it's Lana would totally blow that away.

Thanks! I definitely agree that it would be the most disrespectful thing Lana could do. I know she's always cared about being seen as proper in her romantic relationships (remember that long PM she wrote to Padma?), but I don't think she realizes how deep she's in it already. And for it to be with the husband of your role model just makes it 100x worse.

Well, maybe not outright. Would she make it a lingering death? No, if it was something that could make Bella look bad (she's
clearly not satisfying Rod's needs," whatever) I think she'd get rid of the problem immediately. And she's passionate enough to do it in a fit of rage.

I think Bella is just as depraved as the Carrows, but she knows how to be sneaky about it. I wouldn't put anything past her- including killing Lana.

I feel a bit sorry for Rod, because Bella obviously cares more for the LP than him (under the guise of serving her country) and he's been unhappy for a long time. I think he wants the marriage to work, but how can it if she's never there and doesn't take his feelings into account? I understand why he yearns for companionship. I don't think he started our trying to seduce Lana, but they've already stepped well over the line, and it's not going to end well.

It really isn't, just like the situation with Narcissa and Barty. (Too bad they can't just match up Barty and Lana and have them both out of the way.)

You have to feel sorry for for Rod. My heart just broke for him when I read these comments (http://alt-rodolphus.dreamwidth.org/2006.html?thread=15574#cmt15574) (especially since Bella completely missed the point). But oh, this is such a bad idea. Lana needs to run far, far away - Bella will not stand for being humiliated by her protege.

Whatever happened to Lana's boyfriend, by the way? I'm sure I remember her having one. But she keeps awfully busy, so I guess she hasn't had the time for him either.

Ned Pennifold, Lana's boyfriend, is Barty's assistant. Between Barty's work and Lana's training, I think they probably haven't seen each other much lately. I agree that Lana and Barty would make a good match, if they can get out of their current situations with their reputations intact.

That exchange with Bella and Rod broke my heart too. I know Bella's never going to be a Molly Weasley, but she could show a bit of compassion for her family sometimes.

Well, she can show some compassion. Sort of. She at least acknowledged that she was letting some things go for the "greater good." But the worst part was her not even mentioning Hydra. She really doesn't care.

Right now, yes. She's too young for Rod, too, but something seems to be happening there. But in the future (after she's done with training), I think that they could make a good couple, if they both don't spend their time pining for people they shouldn't (or can't) have.
