Pansy

Is it just me, or does Pansy sound a little Imperio'd?

It's just odd to me, because she was so sullen before about being punished but now she's quite contrite. I'm not even going to touch the fact that she was hit.

Yeah, I think we're picking up the same thing (I just left a comment on the last post about Pansy's fake-sounding tone in her latest post and comments). Going back, her last post before this ended with her writing and then crossing out that nobody could stop her from thinking what she wanted to think, and then meeting Ron out by the lake to talk. So maybe she came up with a plan to just lie and say whatever people wanted to hear so she'd get out of trouble for now.

Imperio would be a very interesting explanation as well. Though if you're right that she's being Imperio'd, I think whoever is doing it is about to make an enemy for life. At least three, actually, since I think Ron and Sally-Anne would be totally outraged when they found out and not accept any reason for doing that to her as valid.

Ha, I am so thrilled you noticed the exclamation points too! I actually used find on her livejournal page a few minutes ago to see every instance she has used them. Conclusion: she has used them three other times, but never more than two a post and NEVER a double before.

The only person I could imagine using Imperio on Pansy is Barty Crouch, Jr. Maybe he did that *and* kidnapped Hermione, in an attempt to fix the problems at Hogwarts. He sort of seems the type to do something rash and crazy like that.

That's good evidence for your Bella theory, especially since she specifically named Friday as when she'd do something about it. I do tend to think she'd be more likely to do that in a world where she had gone insane in Azkaban than in Alternity world, though, because it seems like such a BAD move strategically to Imperio someone to get them to say they agree with you (and thereby pretty much destroying all chance that they will ever actually agree with you), that I can't picture anybody sane doing it.

I love big game events. I can't tell if most of the action is going to happen tonight or tomorrow, but I am excitedly pressing refresh in case it's tonight!

I'd agree about Imperio being a bad strategy if it didn't seem to have been used canonically for long-term mind control. (It was used as a false excuse by some of the Death Eaters after Voldemort's fall in 1981, but seems to have been inspired by actual cases where they had used it successfully on certain Ministry toadies to gain control. And I thought it likely that they were using it again in Books Six and Seven, though I'll admit that JKR walked a very fuzzy line between since Imperius in this sort of situation was meant to function as an allegory for how easily persuadable bureaucrats and ordinary citizens can be under the sway of scary/charismatic extremists. Sometimes she showed that real-world phenomenon at work in the Wizarding population and Ministry and sometimes she seemed to suggest that magical means had been used to control folks.)

I wondered, too, wrt Pansy if we might be seeing something more like Confundus than Imperius. She might only have had her thoughts mildly muddled and conveniently redirected rather than possessed.

It looks like it's going to be a good game tonight! :)

Yes!! (double exclamation for sure)

I need to nip out to pick up a bottle of wine and some dinner and settle in for the show! :)

What we need is a sound track... who's got the Wagner?

I just set up a station for Wagner-like music at Pandora.com. It is pleasingly mood-appropriate!

But I'm going to have to go out in 10 minutes or so. I hope I don't miss something really exciting.

A brilliant idea. I always forget to use Pandora. Wonder if I remember my username and password...

Actually, now it looks like Pansy's just fine (http://community.livejournal.com/hpalternity/9159.html?thread=64967#t64967) -- if a little cautious. She's learned to strike her questions.

I do wonder to what degree she is internalizing the message that she's to blame for her mum's drinking. That's the worst thing Lucius has tried to do to her. Worse than the hitting -- because she'll get angry about that eventually (as the grim truth seeps out for her to process). But a child's guilty fear that they are responsible for a parent's pain or death or irresponsible behavior is a horrible, debilitating thing. Pansy can chew over the half-truths and outright lies, if the emotional blackmail doesn't cripple her.

I'm assuming Teddy's newest post is in regards to the gift he and Draco were discussing earlier, but coming as it does immediately after Boot's impassioned plea for Hermione, it is Incredibly Creepy.

And it appears Ron, Hermione and Neville are the new trio!

I wonder what involvement Draco and Harry had in the troll incident, if any.

How could he? He's out of the country and nobody can get in or out.

If they're sticking close to canon, it's Quirrel... but since all of the circumstances around Quirrel's actions are changed (he does not, for example, have Voldemort living in the back of his head trying to find corporeal form), what exactly does Quirrel want? Is it still the hidden object? And if so, is that object still the Philosopher's Stone?

Lucius says, and we all know how reliable *his* posts are, that Q is after his pension. Recently he was sighted near Hogwarts. It was well publicized that V was going to be present it could have been an attack by Q on V. Or it could be related to whatever, probably the philosopher's stone, Fluffy is guarding.
