I've been giggling while reading. And appreciating the icon choices. Also the line "Your mother will be pleased to hear that your taste is impeccable."
Oh, it's taken an ominous turn here (http://alt-lucius.dreamwidth.org/57821.html?thread=354781#cmt354781)! Lucius seems to think so, too. (I was wondering if he was going to take Draco apart into teeny tiny hurting pieces or whether he'd have to back pedal. Looks rather like the latter, and isn't that interesting to see!)
These are presumably the earrings (http://alt-draco.dreamwidth.org/22380.html) he got for Pansy (http://alt-pansy.dreamwidth.org/43291.html), right?
I wonder if he was planning ahead when he made sure that Narcissa didn't already have a pair like them - in case he and Pansy broke up between the time he ordered them and Valentine's Day, he'd be able to give them to his mum for "Mothering Sunday". It would be quite splendidly Slytherin if he did (even though he was clueless enough not to know how much they'd cost).
That's a great theory - except that he asked his grandmother about Narcissa's jewelry after he gave the earrings to Pansy. (His post to Druella is dated 2/29, two weeks after Valentine's Day.)
I wonder what Druella thought about Draco's suggestion that he'd splash out for emeralds for mother's day. Clearly she followed through on the inventory. (Thanks for pointing back to that post.)
It would amuse me if Draco's already placed the second order with Garrards before being made to realize exactly how expensive emeralds are. (And before he lost authorization to use the family account.) Not too late to cancel the order, perhaps, but Lucius might find it awkward to insist on that.
I am also loving this plot. Seeing Lucius backed into a corner by a little innuendo from his son is absolutely hilarious.
I really wonder where Draco is going to end when the fuses are lit in 7th year and everything is about to blow. Pansy as well, she is all set to break our hearts depending on whether she breaks toward family or friends. Or of course as one of the many bodies on the floor at the end (my goodness I'm dreading when the deaths start to really pile up near the end.)
Absolutely. But that only makes it more interesting because, if that's the case, Draco was risking (no, really, pretty much setting up) Druella's asking Narcissa about her mothering day gift from Draco in a way that would produce awkwardness. He either comes off as looking childishly unrealistic in his gift-giving ideas (which he'd probably hate his Nanella to think about him--and what if she's amused and tells Narcissa the whole story?!) or he has to come through with something suitably grand even if it's short of emeralds. Bless.
Whoops. I should read all of the posts, eh? Of course, using his grandmother to find out if Lucius gave those earrings to Narcissa is also a very Slytherin thing to do.
Now that he finally realizes how much such things cost, I doubt he's going to give his mom a set of emerald earrings. On the other hand, depending on how hacked off he is at his father, he might well give her a drawing. Of his mom. Wearing those earrings.
And thanks for the greeting! Definitely new here - all jenett's fault.
I'm loving their throw down. I'm assuming that the earrings in question were given to Lucius' erstwhile mistress.
Lucius' inability to put two and two together is surprising me. Didn't Pansy mention the earrings publicly? Also I'm somewhat surprised Draco didn't just come out and say who they were for. Obviously he won't now as both sides seem to be digging in their heels.
