This is probably going to sound really random, but I just wanted to say that I love all the faces the players use for the characters, even when I have no idea who they are. (Though I keep accidentally happening across them, which is sort of funny. Discovered Pansy's today, I did not recognize her at all.)

So yeah, I love your faces!

If anyone can help us ID Zacharias, that would actually be really helpful. None of the players who have looked for more icons for him can find the actor at all...and his player does not remember the actor's name!

I hadn't really realized how much they were feeding into my experience until I started being really thrown by Sally-Anne's new icons. (Which isn't to say they're not nice (they are), or that I won't like them long-term (I probably will), but they're currently hitting my brain irregularly as kind of not what she looks like). Still. Pretty.

Though actually, come to think about it, I've had the problem with Barty occasionally where my brain parses one of his icons as Ten (ah, the Tenth Doctor, that is) and then I have to kind of stop and carefully back up and try again. Which is not the players' fault at all, but I thought it might amuse someone.

Anyway. Yeah. I think I was originally planning to post something along the lines of general agreement?

That's funny, because it's the same actress, isn't it? Just older. Age makes a difference, though, and it's always a little jarring at first when the icons change.

I never really have a problem with Barty. Not sure why, since I do watch Doctor Who, and I think they actually use icons of him as Ten, which ought to confuse me if anything does. Maybe it doesn't because I saw him in Harry Potter first.

It is the same actress in all the pictures. I think there are a few where she still really looks like her younger self, like this one and this one, but yeah, she changed a lot as she aged. (I actually pondered changing to a different but similar looking actress, because for a while, the ONLY pictures I could find of the actress at an older point looked so COMPLETELY unlike Sally-Anne. But this latest time I went looking, I found some halfway decent ones, and she really was looking a bit too young compared to her friends.)

It's funny how much the pictures affect my own conception of my characters, honestly.

I was wondering if you'd keep her (since I knew she was in Caprica at least and there might be good pictures of her in that) or switch to someone else. I'm glad you kept her, because I like her a lot. What are the pictures from? Did you go with Caprica (I watched barely two episodes of that so I can't recognize shots) or something else?

And I think it makes sense? Most if not all of the RPers I know are very picky about what their character will look like. And for good reason, because their expressions have to look right, if they look wrong it just throws you off.

I've liked seeing more icons of Sally-Anne looking happy, though. It makes it feel like she is much happier, overall, even though there's new frightened/wary/angry icons, too.

I think most of the images are from Caprica, but I haven't actually watched Caprica, so I'm not sure.

Apparently it is (I wasn't sure one way or another), but either way she looks very different. Much more mature, which is nice to have a visual indicator of, and the new icons are also otherwise very nice, it's just a bit jarring still.

You may be right about that--I've only seen a few of the movies, and I don't think Goblet of Fire was one of them (I'm not much one for movie of books, I get too nit-picky, so I just tend to not watch them), so I don't have that connection. (Looking at his icons, I suspect you may be right on that, too--some of them look familiar beyond parsing as Ten. Huh.)

Yes, David Tennant played Barty Crouch, Jr. in the films. (And yes, some of his icons are from DW but were still chosen carefully.) (He's not alone: Many of Snape's and Sirius's icons are not in-character.)

Where possible, we use the actual actors. There are exceptions (Narcissa, Zach, Justin) and there are obviously some original characters / characters who were not really shown in the films.

I like Sirius's icons from Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead. Particularly the one with the burger.

I have the opposite problem with Tennant. Because of Alternity, now when I watch Ten I get this jarring 'But that's Barty the Bastard!' knee jerk reaction.

I have that problem. (I'm currently rewatching Tennant era Who, too, and it does not help.)

The one that really weirded me out was Tennant doing a single episode character in Foyle's War who is an ardent pacifist. It broke my brain.

(Foyle's War is a completely awesome series, for people who haven't seen it: mysteries in the south of England during World War II. It does moral complexity very well, and is thus sometimes uncomfortable watching, but in the good way. Also a somewhat obsessive attention to historical detail and internal canon.)

Justin always confuses me. Because he's so polite and proper but his icon is Jay from the Inbetweeners.
And Jay is not polite or proper in the slightest.

I've had to learn to ignore Justin's icon as him and Jay are just completely incompatible and my brain rebels.

Yes, Jay and Justin are polar opposites. His player is very grateful to only have really caught up with the Inbetweeners recently, long after choosing him for the icons. (And for the record, the show is hilarious and filthy and wrong but yeah, cognitive disconnect.)

My problem as Terry's player: The images I found for him as a younger kid were perfect for the character, but images of an older Terry are VERY limited. That's because the actor got busted at an illegal rave and ended up in jail for fourteen months. So that put a gap in his filmography, to say the least.
