Yeaaaaah this is exactly what I was afraid would happen from the moment Ron didn't immediately say "it's a love potion but I can't tell you where I got it." Or even "it's a love potion but you have to promise not to tell St. Mungo's." And Draco is totally justified in saying "screw you guys I'm doing my own thing", too.

Draco's actually said the thing that's been annoying me a bit about Alternity for a while: the adult members of the Order (non-Hogwarts staff and not Bill, Jeremy and Cedric) don't actually really do that much. Whereas, the ISS, (Draco, Harry, Hydra and Hermione especially) are there facing Death Eaters pretty much every single damn day and... I don't know, it's like the others don't really see just how dangerous it is for them.

Should have known the players meant for it to be like that.

But I confess to most vicariously enjoying the show along with him and the girls. So I must be an idiot too. Although I would have come clean when asked.

Draco is the only victim I'm really concerned about. I hope hermione can help. Padma lost the last smidgen of my sympathy when she said what she did about Dean. She is such a self absorbed bitch.

Yes. Yes he is. He is more savvy than he is in canon - because he's been forced to be by events - but he's still a doofus. Seriously. "But I didn't want him telling them he knew somebody'd given her a love potion because then they'd have wanted to know who, and that would've led to Fred." Did he think Malfoy couldn't adequately lie about how he knew it? If nothing else, he could have said "I saw her leave her drink unattended, and then after she went back to her drink this happened," which conveniently leaves out "who" or "what kind" but makes "potion" more likely than "hex, rune, Imperius". :|

Alice, for the win:

I need to know that you are capable of working in the best interests of our organisation, and all of our members. I need to trust your judgement. And right now, I need you to realise the extent of what you have done, own up to it like an adult, and sincerely apologise to Draco Malfoy. You need to tell him what you did that was wrong, and what you will do to remedy it for the future, and you will do your best to keep your word. It will most certainly not be enough, but it is a start.

Honestly I wouldn't drug/ potion someone, but the player has made Padma so believably nasty, that in her case I found it hard to care.

Ron, and to be honest , the rest of the Orders challenge entrants need to grow the hell up. Draco has himself kept his cards very close to his chest. And I'm not overly happy at the adults either. All these decisions should be discussed before implementing. If someone is worried they won't be able to react normally if they know, they should avoid the discussion. But in many ways, the candidates are being left to make their own choices, some of which are dubious and then castigated when they screw up.

Trusting them to do the right thing, when there is no time to consult others fine. But leaving them to their own devices is a cop out. Alice hasn't made her expectations clear up until now. I like her a lot and usually respect her character, What she says makes a lot of sense, but this is a bit late to speak up.

Don't get me wrong. I realise they are making the best of a bad situation, and it's hard to see the ISS in constant danger and still think of them as children.
But Snape is being the most involved and supportive order member. Hell, Raz is being more support to Harry in his role than anyone else.

This just isn't sitting well with me.

It seems to me that in order to actually riff the books properly the adults have to be less effective than the kids, because ... well ... in canon they mostly were. (Though in implausible ways, like the canon raid on Mysteries which is still just.)

first, slow clap for the players (I have been obsessively refreshing since what, 3 PM? Good show.);

second, predictably, oh, Draco! Oh, Hermione! Oh my heart! ;

third, it's kinda cheesing me off that Ron has yet to apologize, yet it's been almost an hour since Alice told him to. Cough it up, Weasley, cough it up. ;

fourth, as per normal, REFRESH REFRESH REFRESH.

Must also add this quote from the movie "10 Things I Hate About You":

It's totally a cop-out, but at least Alice has the excuse of not being right there the way that the adults were around in canon. (Though I have to wonder how long it would have taken to induct all of the ISS lock if Dumbledore hadn't just gone ahead and done it.)

Also, as far as Padma goes, I think if the potion had worn off overnight it wouldn't have been an issue for me - I mean, sure, love potions (and Imperius!) are horrible things, and even horrible people don't deserve public humiliation, but it was still pretty funny until the next morning. It might even have stayed funny if Ron had helped Draco even a little bit - "sorry, mate, didn't expect her to go after you, it was a potion I read about, maybe I made it wrong", you know? Rather than "well duh it was a potion, who would want to grab your leg and profess undying love, lol".

(Which makes me wonder, actually, whether the Twins expected it to be quite so drastic, and whether they'd have been pleased to see it. Nobody's PMed them about it (well, only Ron or Sally-Anne would know to do so) and they haven't asked anything.)

Holy crap. Ron actually apologized and it was a real apology, not a "I'm sorry you got angry," unapology.

I mean I would be shocked if Draco even accepted it graciously, because Alice is right that even the best apology would be too little too late, but Ron actually did do it, and reasonably promptly.

I hope Remy doesn't get a little weirded out by his ardor, though.

Checking the wiki, it looks like love potions canonically wear off after 24 hours, and Seamus and Remy were already in a relationship, so it's possible Seamus just won't realize anything was up, unless he compares experiences with Padma. Even then he might think it was an... I don't know, anti-inhibition hex or something, even if it lasts 48 hours instead of 24.

All of the players have lives that may include spouses/significant others, children, jobs, illnesses, parties, tickets to things... Sometimes there are things that ought to be our character's first priority, that can't possibly be the player's first priority.

If it's a significantly long and noticeable gap, sometimes we make up a story to explain it, but for an hour or two or even three -- we count on our audience to play along with the illusion.
