Madame Defarge is an extremely vengeful character in Tale of Two Cities.  Takes vengence to the generational level, wanting to kill the grandchildren of the perpetrator of a wrong against her family.

Do you think there's a chance that the Carrows have had problems with Boots or Weasleys of the past? He's obviously happy that this happened, for some reason...

I remember Molly telling Sirius in the comments, somewhere, that during the previous year, Carrow punished the twins by transfiguring them into beater bats, and giving them to the Slytherin team during a Quidditch match (they both had concussions when they were transfigured back.) I think they were being punished for charming the chalk board so that it would insult Carrow whenever his back was turned. But I can't remember where that was--can anyone else find it??

I think it was before Carrow actually showed up in the journals.
