Any guesses as to the story behind Theodore Nott's mother, what makes her a "bad woman" and how she died?

And while we're at it, are there any other questions or theories or predictions that have been kicking around anyone's mind? Post them here so we can discuss them together.

I've been thinking about Michael Corner's missing necklace. Its proximity to Arthur's post about Saunders Morys makes me wonder - having heard about the enchanted rings, it seems like enchanted necklaces might be a variation.

When did the Sanctuary start? Too recently for Michael to have been part of it, I think, but perhaps he's a halfblood like Sally Ann and his family came up with their own enchanted jewelry when they were separated?

Good point! I'm curious as to why he doesn't want Hermione consulted - perhaps he's afraid she'll be able to see it or understand what it is in a way that the pureblood students don't? Maybe it's just enchanted to be hidden from purebloods?

I suppose the first thought about Teddy's mum is that she was a Muggle or, more likely, a Muggleborn. Perhaps she concealed her heritage from her husband and was rejected when it came to light. Or Nott might have married her despite her heritage only to later be pressured into renouncing her.

Now the whole cascade of theories...!

Or, of course, she might have no blood impurity at all and still might have fallen victim to the Lord Protector's rise (because of some fault committed by Nott?) and then repudiated (slandered?) as impure.

Or, perhaps, she was responsible for her own fate. Might her crime have been siding with Muggleborns? Or opposing Tom Riddle's rise on some other grounds?

There. You asked for someone to hare off after the red herrings. It is the thing I love best!

In case anyone was still wondering, we have as-good-as confirmation that it's the Stone.

For Mama Nott, I was also thinking Muggle/Muggleborn/blood traitor.
