I'm so glad Seamus felt like he could come out to Padma. He's hinted around it several times, and I'm glad he has a friend he can trust. Given his precarious place in the Protectorate, I (sadly) understand why he might want to keep it quiet, though.
I agree. I wonder if Padma will turn out to be a trustworthy friend for Seamus. So far it seems so, but it also seems as if Padma will need to grow a bit to accept this. (And I wonder if there will be stumbles along the way to that growth...)
I know! I was watching that post like a hawk! Also amused by the constant speculation about Sally Anne and Pansy. It probably seems that way, given that Pansy has her own place and Sally Anne stays there frequently.
I think it will take her a while to truly accept it. It will be interesting to she what her reaction is when it becomes public knowledge. I wonder how Seamus will be treated once the truth comes out. Unlike Regulus, his societal status is much more shaky, even if his foster parent is well-respected.
Well, but Lav and Parvati are on the same level socially. I think the motivation in the rumours about Pansy and Sally Anne is snobbish puzzlement over Pansy's giving Sally Anne such favour (and neglecting others who think they merit her respect more even if they don't especially care whether they have her friendship or not).
Here's what I think is going on:
The elite girls (with Padma at the helm) want to snub Pansy for a whole host of reasons, but they can't make it stick if she has Sally Anne. And it stings that Sally Anne seems to be the only female friend Pansy needs or wants. Social discipline only works if everyone wants to follow the lead of the doyenne. If someone doesn't care, then the empress has no clothes.
It also really bugs Padma that Draco defends Pansy because Draco has rank on Padma, so he undermines all her efforts to snub Pansy into falling in line.
I definitely think they're jealous of Pansy's status, and I think that you're right about how Sally Anne and Draco get in the way of that. At least Padma has seemed to turn away from open hostility toward Pansy recently. I hope Seamus' situation is going to help her realize the importance of supporting your friends irregardless of what other people think, and that she'll better understand Pansy and Sally Anne's relationship.
